Sir JJ Ranked 2 in Outlook survey |
Below is a quote from Outlook India website..
Top 3 Architecture - IIT, Kharagpur
- Sir JJ College, Mumbai
- SPA, Delhi
Even if the economic slowdown currently looks like a figment of the Sensex's imagination, there's no denying the harsh realities: the jobs market has swung from irrational exuberance to an irrational freeze. While the pendulum will swing back, it'll be a while before we see 40 per cent annual pay hikes again. More worryingly, manufacturing and exports remain in the dumps. While much of the attention has been on the middle class' bewilderment at this dramatic turn of events, it is the armies of skilled and semi-skilled workers who have been hit the most. They continue to have reason to worry. In these stormy times, Outlook's annual rank ing of India's top professional colleges—in its fourth edition, this time with GfK-Mode—is an island of reassuring calm. That's because there are many familiar top-ranked institutions in the perceptual listings—an indication, if any was needed, of mind over glitzy matter. Given the advertising barrage by institutes of all types claiming "cent per cent placements" and promising a "good college life", this is a crucial need. Interestingly, industry professionals who participated in the survey gave more importance to academic excellence and the selection process—and lower weightage to an institute's infrastructure and placement track record. There is a lesson here somewhere for prospective students... more |

Hospitality the Versatility of Italian Design |
Short intro of Mumbai Last Stage Indian & Italian design projects What’s next together The project “Hospitality the Versatility of Italian Design” a cultural and commercial exchange focused on the furniture design industries of both countries, concluding its tour with an exhibition running in Mumbai from 31 march to 6 April 2009 at the historic Sir JJ College of Architecture. The goal of the project was to inform Italian Design producers about the needs of and opportunities present with the developing Indian market. An jury of 60 of India’s leading design professionals (architects, professors, designers, producers, agents, distributors etc.) identified over 1000 products of ‘Italian Design’ that they believed were best suited to the Indian market.
An initiative designed to provoke reflection on and discussion about a new approach to the market, taking account of key cultural values which are at the heart of daily life. A project which hopes to create a positive cycle of understanding and exchange which might give rise to new opportunities even in a global economic climate which has undergone great change.
The 100 pieces selected by the Indian jury formed the basis of an exhibition tour together with a series of work-shops and lectures. The exhibition has been staged in Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and will return to Mumbai with a special ‘press presentation’ in March 2008. The design of the exhibition setting for the Hospitality tour was created by IDLAB, a creative laboratory based within JJ College, a permanent structure created between Italy and India in line with the objectives as listed above. The exhibition design, realised in collaboration with FABINDIA, was created through the team work of Italian designers and designers and students from India.
Alongside the week-long exhibition in Mumbai a series of events designed to stimulate Exchange and dialogue, beginning with a media reception and continuing with round table discussions and lectures involving design professionals and institutions from both countries. A chance to express points of views but above all, to identify ideas and initiatives which might facilitate future collaborations.
A detailed program of the events, the press releases and further information relating to Hospitality are available online at
